Actually I had just come back after completing my B.Tech in bio-technology from Dr DY Patil University in Mumbai when my father, a PCS officer, spotted this advertisement in the paper for Miss ETC Punjabi competition. He encouraged me to go for the auditions.

She is all of what you expect her to be… graceful intelligent, incredibly eloquent and, of course, a trifle abrasive. But whichever way you look at Shabana Azmi, she remains a woman of substance who makes a lot of sense. Be it when she talks of her favourite character Amrita in the long-running play Tumhari Amrita, which is what brought her to City Beautiful, or when she dwells on the change that Indian cinema has witnessed in the last few years.
Incidents, happenings and life at large when scanned through the measure of time, bring out some consequential and some inconsequential observations. That crisp Lucknawi kurta, the salt and pepper hair showing a bit more of the receding hairline, and those spectacles sitting loose, dropping at their own will; years haven't left a residue on actor Farooq Sheikh's face!
