Nine Amarnath pilgrims were killed and 21 seriously injured when a bus they were travelling in rolled down into a gorge at Ramban on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway at 11 pm on Saturday.

Ramban SP Anil Magotra said the toll would have been higher had a pine tree not prevented the bus from falling further deep into the gorge. DC Ramban Shabir Ahmed Bhat was supervising the rescue operations.
