Man who dug death trap held
Sunit Dhawan/TNS

Gurgaon, July 8
The police have arrested the owner of the house in which the parents of four-year-old Mahi, who died after falling into an abandoned borewell in front of their house last month, were tenants.

The police had registered a case against Rohtash Tayal under Sections 304, 188 and 336 of the IPC. Since then, Tayal had been evading arrest and had also applied for bail. However, he was denied bail by the District Courts and subsequently by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The arrest took place after the high court dismissed his bail plea.

Tayal told the police that he had engaged contractor Satish Kumar of Bhiwani for digging the borewell in which Maahi had fallen.

After being arrested, Tayal was produced before Judicial Magistrate Sachin Yadav, who remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days.

While the police had earlier arrested Himmat and Satbir, who had allegedly dug another borewell located near the one in which Maahi fell, Satish Kumar is yet to be arrested.

The child’s body was taken out of the borewell after more than 86 hours.
