Court summons VK Singh in defamation case

Just-retired General VK Singh, who created history by becoming the first serving Army Chief to drag the government to court over his age issue, today was summoned as an ‘accused’ in a criminal defamation case filed by Lt Gen Tejinder Singh (retd).

India-US strategic dialogue on June 13

External Affairs Minister S M Krishna is leaving here next week for Washington to co-chair with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton the third India-U.S. Strategic Dialogue to be held on June 13. However, what has raised many an eyebrow is the fact that from Washington, Krishna will travel to Cuba, a country considered a continental and ideological rival of the US.

IIT Kanpur rejects common engg test; will hold own JEE

The IIT Kanpur faculty unanimously rejected the move to hold a single engineering entrance test for admission to central technical institutions from 2013 and said it will conduct its own test for admissions to UG courses.

IMA upgrading facilities to adjust 2,400 cadets 
Lt Gen Manvender SinghDehradun, June 8
The Indian Military Academy (IMA) is developing infrastructure to accommodate at least 2,400 Gentleman Cadets at a time. Commandant of the IMA Lt Gen Manvender Singh told mediapersons at the academy here today that while at present the IMA had 1,800 Gentleman Cadets, its infrastructure was for an authorised strength of 1,650 Gentleman Cadets.

No free pass to celebrities, VIPs at US airports

Against the backdrop of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s detention at a New York airport, the US has ruled out any separate screening for VIPs and celebrities unless they have diplomatic exemption.

Central scholarships for minorities 
Who gets the bigger share of the pie
New Delhi, June 8
Muslim students bagged the bulk of central government scholarships meant for minorities during the 11th Plan while other minorities including Christians and Sikhs finished far behind on the list. In all categories of scholarships — from the ones awarded for pre and post matric study at schools to those meant for higher studies — Muslim students remained prime beneficiaries, having pocketed an average of 79.06 per cent scholarships granted across segments.
