HC notice on plea against Google, FB
Legal Correspondent

New Delhi, June 6
The Delhi High Court today issued notice to the Centre on a PIL seeking action against Google India and Facebook India for alleged evasion of Income Tax and non-verification of users.

The court sought the government response in four weeks. The PIL has been filed by former BJP ideologue KN Govindacharya, who is now associated with the Rashtriya Swabhimaan Andolan.

According to the petition, Facebook earned a gross revenue of about US$ 37 billion last year but did not pay any tax on its Indian operations in violation of the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement.

The PIL said the perpetrators of the July 13, 2011, blast in that city were in touch with each other through Facebook since 2008.

Further, Google India should be directed to ensure safety of data of 50 million Indian users transferred to the US and being used for commercial gains in violation of the right to privacy, he pleaded.
