DK Joshi is new Navy Chief

The government today appointed Vice Admiral DK Joshi, as the next Chief of the Indian Navy to replace Admiral Nirmal Verma. He will take over on August 31. In the intervening period of three months all important files and decisions will be taken with he being in the loop.

To ensure a smooth transition, he will be briefed about all tasks the Chief handles.

Joshi, who hails from Uttarakhand, is at present Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) Western Naval Command, Mumbai. He was commissioned on April 1974 in the executive branch of the Indian Navy.

Before taking over as FOC-in-C Western Naval Command, he has held important positions, including Deputy Chief of Navy, Commander- in-Chief of A&N Command (CINCAN) and the Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC). He has commanded the Sea-borne aircraft carrier, INS Viraat and destroyer INS Ranvir.

Vice Admiral Joshi is a graduate of the Naval War College, USA, and an alumnus of the prestigious National Defence College, New Delhi.
