Girls outdo boys in CBSE Class XII

Girls outshone boys in the CBSE Class XII results declared today. While girls posted a pass percentage of 82.51, boys lagged behind at 75.8 per cent. The overall pass percentage also took a marginal dip this year, slipping to 80.19 per cent from last year’s 80.88 per cent.

The top three national toppers this year are from the science stream. Mohammad Ismat of Manipur has topped the exam by scoring 99 per cent marks (495/500) in the science stream.

Ismat said he studied for around eight hours daily. “I wish to pursue physics (hons) and later appear for the civil services exam,” Ismat said.

Anshuman Mahopatra from Mother’s Public School, Bhuvaneshwar, secured the second position by scoring 494 marks. Anshuman was followed by Joseph Samuel from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Adoor, Kerala, with 493 marks.

Astha Sethi from DPS, Vadodara, emerged topper in the commerce stream by scoring 490 marks out of 500. Chandigarh’s Navya Singhal from Bhawan’s Vidyalaya, Sector 27, topped the humanities stream with 490 marks.

Chennai zone has once again emerged winner among all eight zones, recording a pass percentage of 90.59. Next in line is Delhi zone with pass percentage of 85.4, followed by Ajmer with 84.26 per cent. Panchkula zone lies sixth with a pass percentage of 78.92.

In all, 8,15,749 candidates had registered for the exam this year, an increase of around 5.94 per cent as compared with last year’s figure. JNVs have again registered best results nationwide with overall pass percentage of 95.96. Kendriya Vidyalayas produced a pass percentage of 94.135 while government schools stood at 83.66.

The number of students who scored 100 or the nearest merit score has gone down in science and humanities streams this year. However, the number has increased in the commerce stream.

Almost 1,450 students scored a perfect 100 in maths last year, while the number is 987 this year. In physics and chemistry, those scoring 98 and above numbered 355 and 724 respectively last year. This year, the number is 580 and 599. In biology, 181 managed to score 99 and above as compared to 251 students last year. In commerce stream, 391 students scored 97 and above last year. The number is 546 this year.
