Denied bail, Nupur moves SC
Parmindar Singh

Ghaziabad, May 2
Even Nupur’s fast at jail till bail hearing could not help her as the Ghaziabad Sessions Court today rejected her application for a regular bail. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is due to hear Nupur’s review petition on Friday.

The Sessions Court order is a major setback for Nupur Talwar. She had been fasting until the Ghaziabad court's verdict came. While rejecting her bail application, Sessions Court judge Shyam Lal took serious note of the disrespect shown by the Talwars to the various court summons issued against Nupur Talwar in connection with the double murder of Aarushi and Hemraj. CBI had told the court that releasing Nupur Talwar could have an adverse impact on the progress of its ongoing probe in the case. CBI had, in the past, alleged they had tried to destroy evidence in the case.

After the court order, Nupur will now have to stay in Dasna jail, where she is currently lodged, till her lawyers file her bail application at the high court and procure bail. This is expected to take some days. She had, in the past, instead of reporting at the CBI trial court, challenged the order at the Supreme Court and for over 16 months, she has been trying to evade trial by moving one Bench or another with a review petition.

So far, Nupur has spent two nights in the Dasna jail. On April 30, she had surrendered before the CBI court and later, her bail application was rejected. She was sent to jail on 14-day judicial custody. She had then moved the Sessions court for bail and her plea was rejected today.

She had recited ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ even at the court and then at the jail. Jail authorities claim she will not be given any special treatment.

Nupur had surrendered following a Supreme Court directive. Nupur Talwar and her husband Rajesh Talwar are accused in the 2008 double murder of her teenage daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj.

Another day in Jail for nupur

As she prepared for her third day of stay in the Dasna jail, Nupur's lawyers immediately moved for bail in the Supreme Court where she has already sought a review of its decision giving a go-ahead to the criminal prosecution of her and her dentist husband Rajesh Talwar. — PTI
