Designs on change
Pradyumna Vyas, director of India’s premier institute, National Institute of Design,
Ahmedabad, feels design is not merely a synonym for luxury but can change lives in ways not imagined
Art and design… the link is self-evident. Yet the key difference between the two, elaborates Pradyumna Vyas, director of India’s premier institute, National Institute of Design (NID, Ahmedabad is, “while art is for self-expression, in designing we must bear in mind that we are creating it for others.” In Chandigarh at the invitation of Government College of Art at whose Diamond Jubilee convocation he will be the chief guest on Friday, however, he goes on to stress upon the significance of art and aesthetics in design.
Life on the fashion street
New York-based designer Kanika Saluja, having made outfits for the likes of Madonna, is upbeat about the adjustable nature of the younger generation
Fashion is a fever. New York-based Kanika Saluja caught it head on and as she likes to put it, “eats, breathes, sleeps, dreams, lives fashion.” “Even if I’m going to buy vegetables, I’d like to look my best and that is what fashion means to me.” Having defined the concept, from here on it’s purely an inspiration-based endeavour for her. The designer and her dreams take on!
Beauty at its best...
She is pretty, funky, cute, stylish, dreamy and slim. Porcelain-skinned Shraddha Kapoor sparkled in Luv Ka The End. She also models for popular fashion and make-up brands. The slim and tall beauty talks about style, good looks, staying fit, and more.
Back where she belongs
Karisma Kapoor is all set to make her comeback in Dangerous Ishq. She talks about the movie and motherhood.
Kiddy stuff
Samaira and Kiaan have grown up a little and don’t need me around all the time. Samaira is not interested in Bollywood at all. She only saw Housefull 2 recently. She now understands that her mother and massi are actresses and that is why we are sort of famous. She will see what her mother did before she was born. She likes being on the sets. I took five months to get back in shape after
Kiaan. You cannot be prepared for motherhood. You learn on the job.
Heroine not being launched at Cannes

Full of bliss
Hilary Duff feels very lucky because her baby son is well behaved, and she gets a lot of support in parenting from her husband Mike Comrie. “We are all so great! Enjoying every moment of this adventure! Lucky to have a peaceful baby and helpful man,” she tweeted. Missing out on fashion
Sushmita Sen appeared on Raveena Tandon’s talk show to talk about her life and accomplishments. Why is she wearing this ugly dress with terrible shoes? Somebody get her a stylist!
A simple, dimpled approach...
When it comes to Bollywood, the biggest challenge, other than being seen on the silver screen and parties regularly, is how to deal with rumours. Just about everyone in this industry, right from Big B to King Khan, Shah Rukh, had to once or even more than once spare their time to deal with rumours. While some take it in their stride and move on, others end up in a press conference (read Vivek Oberoi) and some like actors Preity Zinta smile and move ahead with grace as well as poise.
Word Wise
Each one of us is in a mad rush, too occupied in getting somewhere…but ‘where’ is a question that one seldom asks.
Noted lyricist Irshad Kamil’s recent play Bolti Deewarein addresses this very question. “We say love cheated us, but the fact is it’s us who are cheating love,” says
Irshad, in Chandigrah for a play reading session organised by Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi on Thursday.
the ‘in’ side
Height of illusion
Rooms with low ceilings can pose a bit of a challenge while decorating. Don’t give up, there are a few tricks you can use to create an illusion of more ceiling height.
*
Painting the ceiling a lighter colour or white will create an illusion of a higher ceiling. Another trick is to paint the first 3-4 inches of the ceiling surrounding the wall, the same colour as the wall, although tricky, it adds height to the walls. Yet another trick is to paint the walls and the ceiling the same
colour.
