Coming down heavily on dairies, villages and the Municipal Corporation for defiling the Kala Sanghian drain, the Principal Secretary (Environment) today ordered the local Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) authorities to seal two dairies located along the drain.

Jalandhar, April 6
Coming down heavily on dairies, villages and the Municipal Corporation for defiling the Kala Sanghian drain, the Principal Secretary (Environment) today ordered the local Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) authorities to seal two dairies located along the drain.

The Principal Secretary, Kanwar Avtar Singh, has also directed the district administration to take action against the civic body and villages that are discharging their sewer and solid waste into the drain.

He also asked the officials of the Drainage Department to submit a project report on the cleaning of the drain shortly so that the funds could be allocated for the purpose, revealed SP Garg, Senior Environment Engineer, PPCB, Jalandhar.

The Principal Secretary along with his delegation also paid a surprise visit to Leather Complex and took stock of the common effluent treatment plant (CETP) installed by the Punjab Effluents Treatment Society (PETS), said Ajay Sharma, Director-cum-secretary of the society.

The Principal Secretary expressed satisfaction on the functioning of the plant and the parameters being achieved at the end discharge, he informed. The CETP plant was set up at a cost of Rs 18 crore, out of which Rs 11.5 crore has been spent on the common primary treatment.
