Car blast kills one in Valley

Srinagar, March 22
One person was killed and at least 11 others, including three CRPF constables, were injured in a powerful car bomb blast at Bijbehara in Anantnag district of south Kashmir. “The identity of the deceased could not ascertained as the body has been mutilated,” a police official said.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, SM Sahai said the car in which the blast took place had been going from Anantnag to Srinagar. The vehicle was completely damaged in the incident, he added.

No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.

Meanwhile, a militant was killed in an encounter with security forces at Pattan in Baramulla district, the police said. Acting on specific inputs, the security forces cordoned off Chanderhama village at Pattan, about 30 km from here, and one militant was gunned down.

The slain militant has been identified as Nisar Ahmad, alias Shakti. He belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba. One AK 47 rifle, two AK magazines, two grenades and some rounds of ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter.
