Geelani gave letter of recommendation to arrested LeT man
Tribune News Service & PTI

New Delhi, March 1
Pro-Pakistan hardliner Hurriyat Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani had given a recommendation letter to Lashkar-e-Toiba militant Ahtesham Malik, arrested by the Delhi Police from Tughlakabad extension in South-Delhi, for getting a Pakistani Visa.

Official sources said a copy of the recommendation letter given by Geelani was found in the papers seized from Malik (24). A laboratory technician, Malik was earlier associated with Lashkar in Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir and was arrested in 2007 along with two others.

Ayaz Akbar, spokesperson for Geelani, said, “We don’t know about this case. But generally, if any Kashmiri comes to Geelani sahab for recommendation, he gives his recommendation only because they are Kashmiri. But then how can he know why he wants to go there and what his motive is”?

The police has found that the person arrested today, Tauseef Ahmed Pir, is related to Malik.

Sources said Ahtesham had booked a Delhi-Srinagar air ticket for March 5. This indicated that the LeT operatives planned to conduct a terror attack in a crowded market in Delhi before March 5. They also planned a similar attack in Srinagar.

Meanwhile, Tauseef is scheduled to be presented before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court before March 4.
