On wings
of Love
It is the time of the year when love is in the air. And the one day that most signifies this emotion is February 14, the Valentine's Day, when it is celebrated. Would, then, any destination do for a Valentine date? There are some places that are closely associated with this fragile feeling. If you are planning some time out, try these romantic destinations for Valentine's Day, says

On
the BackwaterS front
NOTHING can replace the magic of spending Valentine's Day in Kerala.
The exotic southern experience includes those of boats swaying
languidly in the water, sweeping beaches, herbal massages, palaces,
gardens and a finger-licking cuisine. Romance can be in full bloom on
the backwaters on a luxury wood-and-coir boat that cruises lazily in
the gently lapping waters. Backwaters are not natural reclusive
islands of glory in an untouched paradise. They are a symbol of life
working close to nature. Swinging from a hammock on the deck with your
Valentine, you can see the water birds swoop down and come up with
fish. And then have an exotic meal onboard ending a perfect day with
perfect romance.
Temples
of Love
A LITTLE over a thousand years ago when King Chandravarman, founder of
the Chandela Rajputs, built temples in Khajuraho, little could he have
imagined that these would become the country's unique gift to the
world, representing the eternal expression of love.
These sandstone marvels
that have rivalled the Taj Mahal can be a unique Valentine
destination. The temples symbolise every aspect of life from the
sublime to the sensual.
There are as many
legends in all these depictions of the Gods as there are in the
frivolities and aspirations of the mortals. No god of the Hindu
pantheon is neglected, nor is any aspect of human life skimmed over.
These temples, devoted to love and passion, form an exotic background
for the Valentine Day celebrations.
Romancing
the Taj
OVER three hundred and fifty years ago, Shah Jahan built the world's
grandest and most beautiful mausoleum in memory of his wife Mumtaz
Mahal. Since then, this masterpiece in marble has come to symbolise
love and has, over the centuries, inspired poets and romantics.
Spend time here with
your Valentine admiring the monument of eternal love under a waxing
moon, whose rays lend it a silvery hue. Explore the gardens around the
Taj. The Charbagh with its canals reflects the monument in all its
splendour.
Other places to spend a
languid evening are the Mehtab Bagh (Garden of the Moon) on the banks
of River Yamuna, which was built to view the Taj on moonlit nights.
Later, have a candlelit dinner at one of the fine dine restaurants in
a luxury hotel for a perfect Valentine evening.
Magic
of Goa
Goa's beaches have a magic, all of their own on Valentine's Day.
That's because Goa is all smiles and joyfulness. A 100-km coastline
studded with some of the world's most beautiful beaches. The word
romance could well have been coined here. You can live it up with your
loved one in Goa. Swim in the placid waters of the Arabian Sea, or
just wade with your partner as far as you choose.
The love-birds can
choose a quiet beach for a romantic afternoon and later curl up with a
book in the shade of a parasol. Stretch out in the glow of the gentle
sun. Or grab a bite at one of the many beach restaurants.
Tramp through the sands
in the afterglow of a fiery sunset hand in hand. After hanging out on
the beach all day come back to get dressed to sit around a bonfire
looking into each other's eyes even as the stars go by. — NF
