With the situation in the Maldives showing no signs of improvement, India is worried that prolonged political instability in the Indian Ocean archipelago could lead to radicalisation of the Maldivian society.

EC writes to Prez against Khurshid
‘Minister’s action can vitiate fair polls’
New Delhi, February 11
Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid is in trouble for challenging the authority of the Election Commission. In an unprecedented action, the poll panel tonight sought the "immediate and decisive" intervention of President Pratibha Patil after it charged Khurshid with “improper and unlawful” defiance of its orders under which he was censured for promising sub-quota for minorities.

China develops sub-launched long-range N-missile

The Dragon is flexing its military muscle yet again. China, it seems, is on the way to add a potent weapon to its sea-based nuclear arsenal, which will mount pressure on India — an emerging dominant player in the Indian Ocean region. Beijing has, for the first time, tested an 8,000-km range submarine launched nuclear-tipped missile, Julang-2. In military parlance, it is known as submarine launched ballistic missile (SLBM).

In the fourth attack on Indians in the last two months in England, Indian MBA student Praveen Reddy, 26, was critically stabbed in the London borough of Newham last night. Eleven persons have been arrested.

Man can’t force wife to conceive, 
rules high court
Chandigarh, February 11
In a first, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ruled that a husband cannot compel his wife to conceive and give birth to his child. Making it clear that relationships that know no limits too have boundaries, the high court has asserted intimacy is one thing, giving birth to a child another.
