MUMBAI ATTACKS
I wasn’t part of conspiracy to wage war, Kasab tells SC
Legal Correspondent

New Delhi, January 31
Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab, sentenced to death in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case, today contended in the Supreme Court that he was not part of the larger conspiracy to wage a war against India.

Arguing for Kasab, senior counsel Raju Ramachandran also contended before a Bench comprising Justices Aftab Alam and CK Prasad that his client did not get a fair trial which resulted in his conviction.

Ramachandran, who is also assisting the SC as amicus curiae in the case, maintained that the prosecution had failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

Further, Kasab was not adequately represented by a counsel to defend himself and was also not given enough time to prepare his argument.

On October 10, 2011, the SC had stayed the death sentence awarded to the 24-year-old LeT terrorist from Pakistan who is the lone surviving gunman involved in the attack. It had passed the order on Kasab’s petition challenging his conviction.
