MUMBAI ATTACKS Legal Correspondent New Delhi, January 31 Arguing for Kasab, senior counsel Raju Ramachandran also contended before a Bench comprising Justices Aftab Alam and CK Prasad that his client did not get a fair trial which resulted in his conviction. Ramachandran, who is also assisting the SC as amicus curiae in the case, maintained that the prosecution had failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt. Further, Kasab was not adequately represented by a counsel to defend himself and was also not given enough time to prepare his argument. On October 10, 2011, the SC had stayed the death sentence awarded to the 24-year-old LeT terrorist from Pakistan who is the lone surviving gunman involved in the attack. It had passed the order on Kasab’s petition challenging his conviction.
