Lambi (Muktsar), January 28
The BJP leader Rajnath Singh and the INLD chief Om Parkash Chautala today sought another term for the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) led coalition government headed by Parkash Singh Badal that had taken “several steps” for uplift of the poor and weaker sections in Punjab.

Parkash Singh Badal and his son and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal also addressed the largely attended rally in which they urged the electorate to reject the Congress that was “involved” in corruption at the Centre and the states where it was in power.

The BJP and INLD leaders described Parkash Singh Badal as an unblemished leader with his 65 years in politics and sought another term for him so as to enable him to complete his development agenda and take fresh path-breaking initiatives.

Winding up the election campaign, Baba Harnam Singh, Jathedar Damdami Taksal and president Sant Samaj, Rajnath Singh, Chautala, Ajmer Singh Lakhowal, president, BKU and Sukhbir Singh Badal urged the people to exercise their choice in favour of Parkash Singh Badal who was a man of the masses and who had devoted his entire life to the people of Punjab.

Sukhbir said that the Atta-Dal scheme feeding about 20 lakh families of Punjab with subsidied ration was a path-breaking step by the SAD-BJP government. He listed various other welfare schemes that were introduced by the Badal government.

He said, “As per our assessment, we are getting 55 seats of the total 65 seats in the Malwa region alone. So, the SAD-BJP alliance is sure to win at least 85 seats across the state this time.”

Sukhbir described Amarinder Singh as an “Arrogant Raja”, and said that the people of Punjab should show the world that they were with the commoner Parkash Singh Badal and not swayed by the false promises made by the Congress leader.

Parkash Singh Badal played an emotional card, saying, “I could never imagine that I will suffer one blow after the other. First, my wife passed away and then my younger brother Gurdass too parted ways at the instance of his son Manpreet Singh Badal. I had never imagined that my brother, who was inseparable, would contest the assembly election against me.”

He also termed the family feud a result of Manpreet's hunger to become the Chief Minister at the instance of the Congress.

In fact, the Congress had been trying to weaken “me” but their repeated attempts failed until they took Manpreet in the loop and split the family, said Badal.

Lambi (Muktsar), January 28
Predicting a landslide victory for the Congress in Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh today asked the electorate here to throw out Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and vote in favour of the Congress candidate Maheshinder Singh Badal. He said that the Congress was heading to win over 75 seats in the assembly elections on Monday.

Wrapping up his election campaign in this high profile constituency after addressing public meetings at Nihal Singh Wala, Goniana Mandi (Bathinda), Talwandi Sabo and Rampura Phul, Amarinder said there was a massive groundswell in support of Congress and it was being reflected across the state .

He said that the large crowd in Lambi indicates that the electorate was in a mood to defeat the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and massively vote in favour of the Congress candidate Maheshinder Singh Badal. He asked them to give him a chance this time to Maheshinder Singh because “you have given so many chances to Parkash Singh Badal and try this man now, who is honest, clean and reliable”.

Spelling out his agenda, he said, the top most priority of his government will be to create job avenues for about 47 lakh unemployed people in the state. He made it clear that the government cannot recruit so many people and for that the state needs to create an industry and investment friendly atmosphere which will lead to creation of jobs.

Questioning the development claims of the Akali-BJP government, Amarinder said, the bullet trains they were showing in the advertisements were actually from Japan and the skyscrapers from Manhattan in the US.

At Talwandi Sabo, the PCC President told another rally to ensure the victory of the party candidate Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu. He said Jeet Mohinder was like his son and promised that once he is elected by the people, he will be inducted into the government.

He said people had suffered a lot during the last five years. The common masses had faced poor governance and maladministration. The Congress workers had suffered the atrocities, excesses and vendetta at the hands of the Akali- backed goons. He promised that each and every case of vendetta will be cancelled, thoroughly probed and the guilty punished.

About his visit to Dera Sacha Sauda and its support to the Congress, he said, “Yes, I met the Dera chief yesterday to seek his blessings. But the Dera has yet to decide whom it would support in the coming polls.” Among those present at the rally were CWC member Jagmeet Singh Brar and former MLA from Gidderbaha Raghubir Singh “Pardhan”, who had revolted after the denial of ticket to him.
