After Kolaveri di, why this ‘dhokhadhadi ji’
Rajeev Khanna/TNS

Nainital, January 18
Kolaveri di, the song that has become an anthem of sorts among the youth, is making its presence felt in Uttarakhand with several versions doing the rounds with strong political overtones ahead of the election. The song hits out at the existing political scenario in the state and attacks the political class for having let down the masses. The song has been posted on www.youtube.com by the young producers.

One of the versions has been created by a group of youngsters from Nainital. The lyrics penned by Hem Bhatt and Anupam Upadhyay, have been rendered by Devendra Bisht to the music provided by Nadeem Siraz. It has been posted as “Kolaveri di Uttarakhand election”.

The song talks about the prevailing gloom. Once again the time of promises and lies is around, it says. It also appeals to the masses to participate in the electoral process. The song makes liberal use of English and Kumaoni dialect. Hummable lines like” Kas sangharsh movement movement, dark future empty dreams, Har Da parauni naukri pachin, no vacancy no vacancy” (Recall the movement for statehood, but today what we have is a dark future and shattered dreams, Har Da (a name symbolising an educated youth) is after a job and what he sees on the board is ‘no vacancy’).

The youngsters say their purpose of creating the song would be achieved if the state registers more than 80 per cent polling. The last stanza has been lifted from a well known work of folk lyricist Gopal Babu Goswani.

Hem Bhatt told The Tribune,” We have got more than 100 hits in just two days. We posted it on YouTube as the youth of the state is well connected on the net. We have been getting phone calls and emails appreciating our effort.”
