Fake currency worth Rs 6 cr seized; 2 held New Delhi, January 12 The police is currently counting the cash with the assistance of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The final figure for the sum confiscated is likely to be much over Rs 6 crore. The Commissioner of Police pointed out that the money was procured from a foreign country. Investigations into the case led to two arrests. Sources said the names of the accused are Mohammad and Hasan. A special cell of the Delhi Police has been conducting operations to unearth this racket over the last 10 days. Special Commissioner of Police (special cell) PN Aggarwal said, “We are in the process of examining the case and further investigating the matter.” The police said cash in denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 was placed inside cartons stuffed between bundles of clothes. Delhi Police Commissioner BK Gupta said, “The quality of the fake currency notes was similar to genuine ones.” Sources said the money was sent from Pakistan through either Gujarat or Jammu. Cash was printed in Pakistan and sent to a gang of racketeers based in Uttar Pradesh. The UP gang has been involved in many cases of racketeering. It tends to go into hibernation after committing a crime. Its involvement in the present case has been their biggest reported illegality till date, added sources.
