Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh today ruled out financial help to private carriers but indicated relief to some in the form of opening up 49 per cent foreign investment in the cash-strapped sector.

Amid intense speculation that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani is about to sack the chief of the Army, General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and the ISI chief, General Shuja Pasha, the Army chief today named Brigadier Sarfraz Ali as commander of the ‘Triple Brigade’ at the General Headquarters, Rawalpindi. The brigade has been used in every military take-over in the past.

Put minority sub-quota on hold in poll-bound states, EC tells Centre

As the debate over reservation for minorities escalated today, the Election Commission directed the UPA government to put on hold its decision to carve out a 4.5 per cent sub-quota for minorities from within the 27 per cent quota for OBCs in the five poll-bound states.
