Trail of Destruction
The storm left a trail of destruction and threw life out of gear in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore district and neighbouring Union Territory of Puducherry. Torrential rains accompanied by gale uprooted hundreds of trees and electric poles, snapping power supply in several areas.
Flights disrupted
Flights to international destinations including the middle-east and Malaysia from Chennai were cancelled following worsening weather conditions. Southern Railway partially cancelled and rescheduled most of the trains between Chennai and southern districts
Weather warning
The weatherman has predicted heavy rainfall for the next 12-24 hours in different parts of the state and Puducherry and advised fishermen against venturing into sea due to rough conditions.

Defence Ministry rejects Army Chief’s plea on age
New Delhi, December 30
Rejecting the Army chief General VK Singh’s statutory complaint seeking an amendment to his date of birth, the Ministry of Defence has made it clear that it would not disturb the status quo at this stage. General VK Singh retires in five months from now - in May 2012. The Army Chief has the option of a legal recourse.

In a major setback to Pakistan’s embattled leadership, the Supreme Court today ordered a time-bound investigation into the memo scandal, overriding the government’s contention that the issue should be probed by a parliamentary panel.
