Unanimously supporting inclusion of the CBI’s anti-corruption wing, the Prime Minister and “Group C” employees under the Lokpal ambit, the BJP, the Left and other political parties that chose to accept the Team Anna’s invitation for a “debate” at Jantar Mantar, the venue of Anna Hazare’s token fast today, also advised members of Team Anna to leave specifics of the legislation to Parliament and be little flexible in their approach.

The latest announcement of the Punjab Government to increase the existing limit of free power being given to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) families for domestic consumption by 100 units per month is likely to increase the problems of the cash-strapped Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).

Pak empowers military to shoot down drones

The Pakistani military will shoot down any US drone that intrudes the country’s airspace under a new defence policy in which troops have been given greater liberty to respond to incursions by NATO and allied forces in Afghanistan, according to a media report.

UN climate meet approves roadmap for 2015 deal

UN climate negotiators today struck a compromise deal on a roadmap for an accord that will, for the first time, legally force all major carbon emitters to cut greenhouse gas emissions, ending days of wrangling between India and the EU over the fate of the Kyoto protocol.

Global distrust peaked in Durban
The Durban Conference on Climate Change finally ended on the wee hours of Saturday after running for over 24 hours beyond schedule. By Friday, the two-week meeting being held at the International Convention Centre in Durban, had broken down into the ministerial-level huddles - small groups of top leaders meeting to thrash out a consensus. 

Expedite decision: Army Chief to Antony
New Delhi, December 11

Army Chief General V K Singh is learnt to have urged Defence Minister A K Antony to expedite the decision on his statutory complaint which asked the Government to treat May 10, 1951 as his date of birth, which will give him ten more months in office.

Paramilitary forces face staff crunch 
New Delhi, December 11
More than one lakh posts, including 25,000 in the BSF and 17,000 in the CRPF, are lying vacant in seven paramilitary forces in the country. Home Ministry officials said of the 1,00,883 vacant posts in the paramilitary forces, 74,816 posts are of constables, 22,016 posts are of Junior Commission Officers and 4,051 are of Group A officer.
