The beleaguered Congress today got a shot in the arm as it won two seats, one each in the assembly by-elections in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Bypolls in the region were held on four seats - Ratia and Adampur in Haryana and Renuka (Reserved) and Nalagarh in Himachal Pradesh. The Congress won the seats of Ratia and Nalagarh.

Ruling Labour Party votes in favour of lifting decades-old ban

Even as it faces a plethora of domestic problems, the Manmohan Singh government added another feather to its cap on the foreign policy front today when the ruling Australian Labour Party (ALP) approved a plan to lift the decades-old ban on the sale of uranium to India.

The accompanying picture was that of Dev Anand with Suhel Seth.  My first thought was – “Oh No, Suhel’s playing God now”, but within seconds I realised that this was no joke, we had lost a legend and Suhel, as always, had captured it perfectly.
