Court orders Delhi police to register FIR against Bedi

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Saturday ordered registration of FIR against former IPS officer Kiran Bedi for allegedly cheating and misappropriating funds in collusion with foreign companies and other foundations.

Additional chief metropolitan magistrate Amit Bansal directed the crime branch of Delhi Police to register the case against the key Team Anna member on a complaint by Delhi-based lawyer Devinder Singh Chauhan, who has alleged that she has "looted" various paramilitary forces and state police organisations in the name of imparting free computer training through 'Meri Police' under the banner of her trust 'India Vision Foundation'.

Chauhan in his complaint alleged that Bedi got a donation of more than Rs 50 lakh from Microsoft in the name of free computer training to the kids and families of the personnel of BSF, CISF, ITBP, CRPF and other state police organisations.

The complainant alleged that Bedi's trust was to impart free computer training to the kids and families of the cops.

"Instead of imparting free training or distributing free computers, Kiran Bedi in collusion with some unknown persons cheated Vedanta Foundation and made a plan to cheat the kids of cops and various paramilitary forces and civil polices and for the purpose Kiran Bedi planned to collect Rs 20,000 per month per training centre.

"For the purpose of siphoning money for herself, Kiran Bedi entered into a donation agreement with Vedanta according to which Rs 6,000 out of the total money of Rs 20,000 was to be paid by Vedanta to her two trusts (India Vision Foundation and Navjyoti Foundation) on the false ground that Kiran Bedi had arranged for the land and electricity for the said centre (training centre) for running their activities," the complainant said.

He alleged that the facility of land and electricity were arranged by the police organisation and Bedi had nothing to do with these arrangements.

Chauhan claimed that Bedi is getting huge money from abroad as donation to her two trusts and it needs to be probed by the Enforcement Directorate.

He alleged that Bedi is liable to be prosecuted for various offences including sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 477A (falsification of accounts) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC.— PTIBack

India waiting for Pak to punish 26/11 perpetrators: Krishna

NEW DELHI: On the third anniversary of the 26/11 attack, India today reminded Pakistan it was still awaiting "decisive" action against perpetrators of the crime, and said evidence provided by it was sufficient to prosecute those behind the "inhuman act".

The External Affairs Minster S Krishna said that the use of terrorism as an instrument of state policy has no place in today's world and is self destructive.
"We are still waiting for Pakistan to act decisively to bring to justice the perpetrators of the mindless violence that was unleashed on Mumbai. We are still waiting," Krishna told reporters here. He said the evidence given by the Home Ministry to Pakistan in the Mumbai terror attack case was sufficient for "any normal court" to prosecute the accused.

"I think the evidence provided by the Ministry of Home Affairs would be sufficient for any normal civilian court to prosecute the people involved in the conspiracy and the perpetrators of this crime," Krishna said.

Harbhajan dropped for Aussie tour

MUMBAI: Out of form off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was on Saturday dropped while Rohit Sharma was recalled in India's Test squad for next month's tour of Australia.

Pace spearhead Zaheer Khan, who missed most part of the England tour and ongoing series against the West Indies because of an ankle injury, has been named provisionally in the squad subject to passing the fitness test.

Bengal wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha was also named in the 17-member squad ahead of Parthiv Patel but there were no other major surprises in the team announced by the BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale after a meeting of the selection committee in Mumbai.

The team, to be captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, will have Virender Sehwag as his deputy. Sehwag was on Friday named captain of the team for the upcoming ODI against the West Indies after Dhoni was given rest.

The selectors more or less retained the core of the team that has been doing duty in the ongoing series against the West Indies which meant that Harbhajan continued to be in the wilderness.

Yuvraj Singh, who was not considered for selection for the ODI series against the West Indies after he declared himself unfit, was also not included in the team which has five pacers, including Zaheer, and two specialist spinners in Pragyan Ojha and R Ashwin.

Mumbai batsman Ajinkya Rahane, who has made quite an impression in the few opportunities he has got, has been retained in the team while fit-again Rohit was recalled.

The Test series against Australia will begin with the Boxing Day (December 26) Test in Melbourne, followed by three other matches in Sydney (Jany 3-7), in Perth (Jan 13-17) and in Adelaide (Jan 24-28).

The Squad: MS Dhoni (Capt.), Virender Sehwag (V. Capt.), Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Virat Kohli, R Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron, Rohit Sharma, Pragyan Ojha, Praveen Kumar, Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha, Zaheer Khan (provisional).

Indo-China border talks postponed indefinitely

New Delhi: The border talks between India and China scheduled to commence on Monday have been indefinitely postponed. Sources said that some demands by the Chinese side, which were regarded as unacceptable by India, led to the postponement of the 15th round of talks on the long-pending boundary problem. Chinese Special Representative Dai Bingguo was to travel to Delhi for talks with his Indian counterpart Shivshankar Menon. The scheduled meeting was a follow up on the talks held in the 14th round in Beijing in November last year.
