2G: CBI raids Airtel, Vodafone offices
New Delhi, November 19
Expanding its probe to cover the NDA regime, the CBI today registered a case against Shyamal Ghosh, who was Secretary in the Telecom Ministry headed by late Pramod Mahajan, and two Telecom service providers - Airtel and Vodafone - for alleged irregularities in grant of additional 2G Spectrum.

China says differences on S China Sea can be overcome: Report
Beijing, November 19
Chinese and Indian Prime Ministers have “vowed” to “eliminate the disturbance” in bilateral ties and to improve relations, according to official Chinese media here.
Noting that in the meeting between Wen Jiabao and Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of the East Asia summit in Bali in Indonesia, differences over the South China Sea had figured prominently, the media said, adding that Beijing would make efforts with New Delhi to eliminate such differences.

A CBI court today sentenced former Union Telecom Minister Sukh Ram to five years imprisonment for taking a bribe of Rs 3 lakh while awarding a Rs 30 crore contract to a private company in 1996.

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh today defended party MP and former cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin against former cricketer Vinod Kambli’s allegations even as Sports Minister Ajay Maken wanted the match-fixing claims to be investigated by BCCI, saying his ministry might step in if the board does not order a probe.

Retirement age of medical teachers raised in Punjab
Chandigarh, November 19
The Punjab cabinet on Saturday evening raised the retirement age for teachers in government medical, dental and ayurvedic colleges from 60 to 62 years in order “to retain qualified medical teaching faculty in the state”. It also increased the age for re-employment for faculty members of these colleges from 65 years to 70 years . Teachers opting for re-employment would be entitled to their last pay drawn plus pension.
