India, Bhutan to strengthen bilateral ties

New Delhi, October 24
India today reiterated to Bhutan its firm commitment to help the Himalayan state in diverse fields.

Bhutan's monarch Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema were accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Rasthrapati Bhavan in the morning.

In the afternoon, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held wide-ranging talks with the 31-year-old monarch, which focused on ways to expand developmental cooperation.

The two sides also reviewed their cooperation in the field of hydropower generation and discussed steps to scale-up trade and investment. The King also met other Indian leaders, including Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister P Chidambaram.
