Four days after a car-bomb was found in Haryana’s Ambala town, a huge quantity of explosives, including 5,000 detonators, 10 boxes of gelatine sticks and 30 coils of detonation cords, were recovered from a house and a car in the Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday. One person has been arrested in this connection.

The police action came on a tip-off provided by local people about some “suspicious” goods being loaded in a car from a house in New Gangotri Colony. By the time the police team arrived on the spot, the car had already left the place, following which all police stations in the district were put on alert.

The car was later intercepted by a policeman from the Raipur Kalchurian police station, around 15 km from here.

Explosive material was recovered from the vehicle and car driver Manoj Kol was taken into the police custody for interrogation, in charge of University Police Station RK Singh said.

Later, the police broke open the house and recovered a huge quantity of explosives.

According to the police, the car belongs to a person Rajesh Patel of Naini town in Uttar Pradesh, who had taken the house on rent just a couple of days back.

The police suspect Patel was present in the car, but escaped on seeing the constables.

“We cannot say much about the reasons behind the presence of explosives but we are interrogating Rajesh Patel’s landlord Aditya Pratap Singh,” Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Rewa, KP Khare, said.

A case under various sections of the IPC has been registered and further probe is on, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) RS Belvanshi said.

The seizure comes four days after a car laden with explosives was found in a parking lot of the Ambala Cantonment Railway Station on October 12. — Agencies
