Huge haul of explosives in MP
5,000 detonators, 10 boxes of gelatine sticks seized from a house, car; driver held

Rewa (MP), October 16
Four days after a car-bomb was found in Haryana’s Ambala town, a huge quantity of explosives, including 5,000 detonators, 10 boxes of gelatine sticks and 30 coils of detonation cords, were recovered from a house and a car in the Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday. One person has been arrested in this connection.

Yeddyurappa moves to ICU from jail
Bangalore, October 16
Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, who was sent to judicial custody yesterday, took ill in the early hours of today and was shifted to a cardiac care institute being run by the state government.

Right to recall risky, says poll panel chief

Amid a demand by Team Anna for radical poll reforms, Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi said he was not in favour of ‘right to recall’ and ‘right to reject' for elected representatives, warning that any such electoral rule would "destabilise" the country.

Jindal’s gift to his US alma mater: Rs12.25 cr
New Delhi, October 16
Industrialist and parliamentarian Naveen Jindal and his flagship company JSPL have gifted $2.5 million (about Rs 12.25 crore) to his alma mater, the University of Texas at Dallas, following which the US university has renamed its school of management after him.

India, US to initiate joint projects in Afghanistan

India and the United States are considering joint projects aimed at capacity-building in Afghanistan so that people of the embattled nation could stand on their own feet once the US-led NATO forces withdraw from there by the end of 2014. As South-east Asian leaders made a beeline to New Delhi this week, one significant visit by a US official went virtually unnoticed in the media.
