Court reserves order on Bhatt's bail plea 

Ahmedabad: A local court here today reserved the order on bail plea of the suspended and arrested IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt till October 17. Sessions Judge V K Vyas, after hearing the arguments of special public prosecutor S V Raju and Bhatt's advocate I H Syed, reserved the order on bail till October 17.

Amar Singh’s bail pleas to be heard on Oct 18

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday adjourned till October 18 the regular and interim bail pleas of Rajya Sabha member and former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, an accused in the 2008 cash-for-votes scandal. Justice Ajit Bharihoke adjourned the matter till Oct 18 after the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) submitted Singh's medical report. The court accepted the report and noted that it needs time to go through it.

SC takes exception to Khurshid's remarks

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today took exception to Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid's reported statement that putting businessmen behind bars will hamper investments in the country, saying if true it is "disturbing". A Bench of justices G S Singhvi and H L Dattu asked Additional Solicitor General Haren Rawal to clarify the minister's statement, while hearing the bail pleas of 2G case accused - Unitech Managing Director Sanjay Chandra and Swan Telecom's Director Vinod Goenka.

Digvijay writes to Hazare again, raises RSS issue

New Delhi: Shooting off another letter to Anna Hazare on the eve of Hisar bypoll, Digvijay Singh, who is leading Congress' counter-attack, today raised the issue of RSS support to the activist and cautioned him that those around him were keeping him in dark. Singh, who had yesterday questioned Anna Hazare on why he was not attacking the BJP, enclosed a letter from RSS general secretary Suresh (Bhayya) Joshi to him, extending "full support" in his battle against corruption

India, Vietnam sign extradition treaty

New Delhi: Amid China's increased assertiveness in the region, India and Vietnam on Wednesday signed an extradition treaty and decided to launch a biennial security dialogue to expand their strategic partnership. The two countries also decided to more than double their bilateral trade from $2.7 billion to $7 billion by 2015 and agreed to boost the two-way investment.
