Kashmiri medical student held in Delhi HC blast case

Jammu/New Delhi, October 7
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a Kashmiri medical student alleged to be a 'key link' in the conspiracy behind the Delhi High Court blast last month that left 15 people dead.
Wasim Akhtar Malik, a student of Unani medicine in Bangladesh, was produced before a Delhi court today and remanded to police custody for 14 days. He is said to have been quizzed about the whereabouts of Hizbul Mujahideen operative Junaid Akram, believed to be one of the key conspirators in the Delhi blast.

Roaming charges may be dropped
New Delhi, October 7
The new Telecom Policy expected to be announced formally on Monday proposes to do away with roaming charges within the country, according to sources in the DoT. This would substantially reduce the bill of frequent travellers but dent the revenue of telecom companies.
Abolishing of roaming charges would be in line with international practices. The policy is also expected to suggest a time-frame for implementing this new rule.

Army to hold joint exercise in R’sthan
Sriganganagar, October 7
In a bid to hone combat skills in deserts, the Southern Command of the Army is all set to launch a massive joint exercise with the IAF and the Indian Navy near here. The exercise, that has been named “Sudarshan Shakti”, will begin in November to test inter-services operability and will be reconfigured to suit constantly changing operational requirements.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) had given its nod to Dr Chawla’s name earlier this week and a formal notification was issued by the Department of Personnel this morning.
