Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today donated his one month salary (Rs 99,500) to his party, Janata Dal (United), to boost up the ‘Green Bihar campaign. Nitish also made an appeal to all his cabinet colleagues, party legislators and those party leaders occupying different posts in the state government undertakings to part with their one month’s salary for this purpose.

Bihar minister for water resources Vijay Kumar Chaudhary immediately responded to his leader’s appeal and handed over a cheque to the party president.

The ruling JD (U) has made it mandatory for everyone joining the party to plant a tree before applying for the membership. The existing members have also been directed to plant at least one tree for the renewal of their membership. The party men will have to provide a photograph of them planting a sapling in support of their claim.

Bihar JD(U) President Bashishtha Narayan Singh told The Tribune that the target was to make 50 lakh members so that an equal number of trees were planted across the state to increase the green cover.
