For the first time since 2010 when six tribal girls from Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh involved in the clinical trials of anti-cervical cancer HPV vaccine died, the government has admitted that 1,725 persons have lost their lives to drug trials in the last four years.

Investigators followed the money trail to zero in on the alleged attempts made by the JSW Group to influence the then Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa by giving huge illegal gratifications to his kin. SC denies bail to Major accused of killing wife
New Delhi, August 7
The Supreme Court has thrown out the bail petition of an Army Major, accused of killing his wife in Kolkata’s Thakur Pukur cantonment area three months ago. The victim was allegedly killed within a week of joining her husband from Shimla. The marriage had taken place 12 years ago.A Bench comprising Justices HS Bedi and Gyan Sudha Misra dismissed Major Krishankant Dwivedi’s petition.

National Institute of Nutrition wants high sodium content in ready-to-eat foods reduced
Hyderabad, August 7
In a major initiative to ensure that people consume less salt, the Central government has asked the manufacturers of packaged foods to gradually reduce the salt content in their products. The changing lifestyles of people, both in urban and rural areas, has resulted in the increased intake of packaged, processed and ready-to-eat foods having high sodium content. Salt is identified as one of the culprits contributing to high incidence of hypertension and other problems.
