Balkrishna reaches CBI office for interrogation Dehradun, August 5 Today was the second time, Balkrishna, who is accused of using fake educational degrees for procuring a passport, appeared before the agency. He earlier appeared before the CBI sleuths on Wednesday and was asked to appear again on Thursday. However, he yesterday sought two-day time to appear before the agency stating that he had to submit his passport before the Nainital High Court. The CBI, giving him one-day relief, asked him to appear on Friday. Sources told the agency was unhappy over his celebrating birthday and not appearing before the CBI on Thursday. The CBI officials argued if he had to submit his passport before the court, he could have done it through his counsel as well. Thus, there was also a possibility that had he not appeared before the CBI today, the agency would have gone to the court. Fearing this, Balkrishna rushed to the CBI office from Haridwar in the morning, the sources added. Even the High Court had earlier, while prohibiting his possible arrest till August 29, asked Balkrishna to cooperate with the agency in the probe. He today reached the CBI office with his counsels and officials of the Patanjali Yogpeeth (Trust) at 11 in the morning. He did not speak with the media and the officials accompanying him refused to have any knowledge about the case and the questioning. Till the filing of the news report, he was being grilled by the CBI sleuths. One of his counsels, Praveen Seth, told The Tribune, “The CBI had asked us to bring some documents related with the case and we have produced them.” However, he told he would be able to speak on what happened today in the questioning once Balkrishna came out from the interrogation room. Submits passport in court
Nainital: The passport of Balkrishna was submitted before the Uttarakhand High Court here on Friday. The passport was submitted by Rajendra Dobhal, who is the counsel for Balkrishna, to the office of the Judicial Registrar. Talking to the mediapersons after submitting Balkrishna’s passport, Lokendra Dobhal who works with Rajendra Dobhal stated, “The passport has been submitted to the court in compliance with its order. The next date for hearing in the case is August 29.” The deadline for submitting the passport was till Friday evening. It was earlier expected that the document would have been submitted on Thursday, but Balkrishna chose to submit it on the last day. Ironically, eyebrows are now being raised by observers on reports that Balkrishna chose to celebrate his birthday on August 4, whereas the papers show that his date of birth is July 25, 1972. Personnel working in the office of CBI counsel Vinay Shukla said, “His date of birth in papers is July 25, 1972.” — TNS
