Yeddyurappa under pressure as Governor promises action
Bhardwaj says if Lokayukta recommends CM’s removal, he will accept it
Bangalore, July 22
The noose seems to be tightening around Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa’s neck with the Governor H R Bhardwaj today saying that if the Lokayukta Santosh Hegde recommended Yeddyurappa’s removal from Chief Minister’s post, he would accept it. Talking to reporters on the sideline of a function here today, Bhardwaj said, “Whatever he (Lokayukta) will recommend, I will go according to that”.

With Central Bill on anvil, Haryana stays land acquisition
Chandigarh, July 22
Haryana has stayed all land acquisition proceedings in view of the likely introduction of a Land Acquisition Bill in the forthcoming session of Parliament. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who issued these orders today, however said the process to acquire land would be stayed only in cases in which notifications under Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act had been issued in the past six months; to be precise on or after February 1, 2011.

Lokpal Bill goes before Cabinet next week
New Delhi, July 22
The much-debated Lokpal Bill will be presented before the Cabinet at next week’s meeting and introduced in the monsoon session of Parliament beginning August 1. “The Lokpal Bill is ready and will be placed before the Cabinet at its next meeting. We shall introduce it at the earliest in the monsoon session of Parliament,” Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal told mediapersons today.

SAD-BJP targets urban voters

The SAD-BJP combine has kick-started its effort to woo urban voters, with its president Sukhbir Singh Badal announcing an array of urban-centric packages. Deadlines have been fixed for starting work on ambitious projects-the Rs 8705-crore Ludhiana Metro and Rs 188-crore Amritsar Pod service.

2 Army officers killed in Siachen fire

Two Army officers, including a Major, were charred to death and four jawans injured when a bunker caught fire on the Siachen Glacier. Sources confirmed that Maj GS Cheema from the Armoured Corps and Lieutenant Archit Vardia from Corps of Artillery were killed in a fire that engulfed their bunker on Thursday.
