Yeddyurappa under fire from all sides
Bangalore, July 21
Beleaguered Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, who is under fire after his name “appeared” in a report by Lokayukta Santosh Hegde on illegal mining, which leaked yesterday, suffered another major setback today as the High Court allowed the Lokayukta police to investigate land scam and corruption charges against the CM and his kin.All eyes are now on Hegde, who will officially hand over the report to the government by June 25. 

Pranab: Govt committed to reforms
New Delhi, July 21
In an exercise aimed at countering the negative perception surrounding the government, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today strongly dispelled the notion that “things are not moving” and sought to outline several reform measures that were in the pipeline. He emphasised that the Indian economy was doing reasonably well.In a briefing with select journalists, the Finance Minister said he wanted to dispel the feeling of despondency and cynicism that had developed.

Money for Leh girl with the DC, says Punjab

A spokesman of the Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Badal, today clarified that the Leh district administration is to be blamed if relief promised by the Deputy CM did not reach some of the victims of the cloudburst last year. He was responding to the report on the front page of The Tribune today under the headline, “ In Leh, Sukhbir has many more promises to keep”.The spokesman , in a written rejoinder, claimed that the Deputy Commissioner, Leh had called up the Principal Secretary to the CM to say that expenses to be incurred on the education of Skalzang Angmo.

SC sets up 2 panels for Kerala temple treasure

The Supreme Court today appointed two committees for documenting and preserving the huge treasure found at the Padmanabhaswami Temple at Thiruvananthapuram.A five-member expert committee headed by Director General of National Museum CV Ananda Bose will take care of the documentation and preservation work, while a three-member panel will oversee the entire exercise.

Arunachal slams China on karatekas’  visa row

The Arunachal Pradesh government today sharply criticised the Chinese embassy in New Delhi for issuing stapled visas to a team of karatekas from the state and asked the Central government to take up the issue at the highest level.
