Toronto, June 26
'Dabangg' and 'My Name is Khan' won top honours at the 12th IIFA awards here with the Salman Khan starrer scooping up six trophies in the popular category, while the best actor and director awards went to Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar, respectively.

'Dabangg', which was the highest grosser last year, was adjudged the best film of 2010. Anushka Sharma won her maiden best actress award for 'Band Baja Baraat'.

Accepting his award, SRK said his role in 'My Name is Khan' was about a character who carried an identity for many years has was not able to reveal it to others.

Johar said MNIK was much more than just a film for him. "Khan has taught me the power of love and humanity," he said.

Sonakshi Sinha won the best debut female award for her performance in 'Dabangg', while Sonu Sood grabbed the best negative role trophy. Sajid-Wajid alongwith Lalit Pandit bagged the best music direction award for their chartbusting numbers in the film, while Abhinav Kashyap and Dilip Shukla bagged the best screenplay award.

The best playback singer (male) award went to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for 'Tere mast mast do nain', while the hit item number 'Munni Badnam Hui' got Mamta Sharma the best playback singer (female) award.

Best supporting role (male) was won by Arjun Rampal for 'Raajneeti' while Prachi Desai won the award in the female category for 'One Upon A Time In Mumbai'. 'Band Baja Baraat' star Ranveer Singh won the best debut (male) award.

Asha Bhosle was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award, while Dharmendra, who performed some of his hit songs at the glitzy ceremony, was honoured by SRK and Ramesh Sippy for his contribution to the film industry.

Making a grand entry with son Sunny Deol to the music of 'Yamla Pagla Deewana', the 75-year-old actor accepted the honour, saying, "50 years seem like 50 beautiful moments of my life."

Ritesh Deshmukh won the best actor in a comic role for 'Housefull', while actor Irrfan Khan was honoured for his Outstanding Achievement in International cinema.

Best story award went to Shivani Makhija for 'My Name Is Khan'. Vishal Bhardwaj won the best dialogue for 'Ishqiya'. — PTI
