Chandigarh skyline in danger Jangveer Singh Tribune News Service Chandigarh, June 15 It was reacting to a Tribune report on the decision of the cooperative society to terminate the agreement for joint development of the proposed “Camelot” multi-storey towers at Kansal village in the vicinity of Le Corbusier’s capitol complex. The society had at a meeting presided over by its chairman and Punjab Assembly Speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon on June 13 decided not only to terminate the agreement with the Tatas but also revoke the general power of attorney issued to the real estate company. A THDC spokesperson, in a communication received here, said the company had also not received any intimation or inclination from the legislators’ society that it would revoke the power of attorney issued to the company to jointly develop 21.2 acres of land. Sources said it seemed Tata Housing was playing safe and not hitting out at the legislators society. The third partner in the development project - Hash Builders- has already made it clear that the power of attorney issued to Tata Housing is irrevocable. The sources said while Tata Housing had a similar viewpoint, it had not stated so to keep the door ajar for negotiations with the legislators’ society. Tata Housing is in consonance with Hash that there is no reason to pay the third installment demanded by the legislators. The sources said the issue was likely to go to the courts unless both parties came to an amicable understanding.
