Maruti talks fail, strike to spread
Sunit Dhawan/TNS

Gurgaon, June 13
Tripartite talks between the Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) management, workers and Haryana Government functionaries failed here today with both parties sticking to their stance. The strike is likely to continue and even spread to other units in view of tomorrow’s tool-down strike call given by several labour unions.

Haryana Labour and Employment Minister Shiv Charan Lal Sharma, Labour Commissioner Satwanti Ahlawat, Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner PC Meena, management representatives and workers remain engaged in a marathon meeting at the HUDA Rest House in Sector 15 here till late evening.

However, the issue of the structure of a separate workers’ union at the MSI Manesar plant could not be resolved, derailing negotiations. Workers’ representatives wanted to push the entry of AITUC members in the MSI union but the management did not agree.

A number of office-bearers and representatives of various trade unions and workers’ associations from other major industrial units of the regions were present.
