Gurgaon, June 12
A senior IPS officer of Haryana cadre died under mysterious circumstances here after he fell from a building, the police said today. Manjeet Singh Ahlawat, in his mid-fifties, fell from a building last night and was taken to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead, they said without disclosing the name of the building from which the officer fell.

Ahlawat was posted as Director, Recruitment Training Centre at Bhondsi here. The body has been sent for postmortem and investigation is on in the matter to ascertain if Ahlawat fell accidentally or it was a case of suicide or murder, the police said. Circumstances leading to his fall from a multi-storey building here last night are still not clear. Repeated attempts to reach the local police authorities for their take on the matter proved futile. The police had not registered a case in this regard till the time of filing this report. Sources in the police pointed out that a case had not been registered as no complainant had come forward. On being contacted, MS Ahlawat’s brother PS Ahlawat, who is posted as DIG in the crime branch of Haryana Police, also preferred to keep mum on the matter.

However, according to sources, the deceased IGP’s family has maintained that Ahlawat, who was accompanied by his close relative, had gone to have a look at a residential apartment for his sister. The duo reached BPTP Park Life building near Badshahpur village located on the outskirts of Gurgaon around 9 pm last night. They were on the fourth floor of the building, from where Ahlawat reportedly fell down after he lost his balance. Sources, however, asserted that Ahlawat had gone to meet some person at the said building when the mishap took place. He had gone there by a private vehicle sans his security men after he returned home from some function, where he had gone along with his family. Ahlawat’s body was later sent for a post-mortem examination. His mortal remains were consigned to flames at a local cremation ground today.
