Pointing at ISI’s direct involvement in providing arms to militants in Kashmir, Tahawwur Rana, one of the key accused in the Mumbai terror attacks, has told the FBI that Pakistan’s spy agency gives weapons to terrorists when they are about to enter the Indian territory.

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj may have defended herself saying that she broke into an impromptu dance with her party workers during the 24-hour-long satyagraha at the samadhi of the Father of the Nation to boost the morale of the cadres in keeping with party tradition, the Congress is not impressed. It is now demanding Sushma’s resignation for her Rajghat jig on the night of June 5/6.

Reveal assets, PM tells ministers

As the UPA government remains enmeshed in allegations of corruption, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sent out a fresh reminder to his ministerial colleagues to declare their assets, liabilities and business interests along with those of their spouses and dependents. Drawing attention to this annual exercise, Cabinet secretary K.M.Chandrasekhar wrote to the ministers on June 2 : “I have been directed by the Prime Minister to apprise you of the declarations required to be made by a member of the Union Council of Ministers in accordance with the code of conduct for ministers.”

In a major administrative reform, the Punjab Cabinet today approved the Right to Service Ordinance-2011 that will ensure timely delivery of services to the people of the state. The ordinance is the result of proposals submitted by the State Governance Reforms Commission.

The ‘mysterious’ murder of one Karam Singh, in his late fifties, on Tuesday morning threatened to snowball into a major controversy and implicate Haryana’s transport minister Om Prakash Jain and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Zile Ram Sharma. Thousands of villagers demonstrated here today demanding their arrest and forced the police to accept a written complaint by the deceased’s son.

Coins in memory of Bhagat Singh remain a distant dream

It was in September 2006 that the Union Government decided to issue commemorative coins in memory of Shaheed Bhagat Singh to honour the sacrifices made by him to help the country attain freedom. Even after four and half years of the same, the coins have still not become a reality.

The Ministry of Defence has rejected the proposed single stream policy of promotion of Major-Generals to the rank of Lieutenant Generals and above. It has asked the Army to redo the policy’s format as the law ministry did not agree to the proposal, well-placed officials said today.
