Tribune News Service

Amritsar, June 6
The SGPC president, Avtar Singh Makkar, announced today that a five-member committee would prepare the blueprint of Operation Bluestar Memorial in consultation with experts and submit a report within two months. The decision on raising the memorial was taken by the SGPC nine years back.

Reading out his message to the community after ardas at the Golden Temple on the occasion of the anniversary of Operation Bluestar, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh turned down the demand for declaring Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as “Panth Ratan”.

Some youths raised provocative slogans despite the presence of the police in mufti. On the SGPC announcement, SAD (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann said the memorial should be raised at the site where Bhindranwale had “attained martyrdom”. Dal Khalsa leader Kanwar Pal Singh welcomed the SGPC announcement.

To mark the occasion, the Akal Takht, the SGPC and Akal Purkh ki Fauj held a blood donation camp in the Golden Temple complex which was inaugurated by the SGPC president. As many as 50 volunteers donated blood. Similar camps were held at Gurdwara Rup Nagar, Bhagtanwala, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda and Tarn Taran.
