Mumbai, June 4
Four police officials, including a woman Superintendent of Police, have been found guilty of sexually harassing woman constables in Kolhapur district. One of them, constable Yuvaraj Kamble, has already been arrested.

Confirming the development, Home Minister RR Patil told reporters here today that an internal inquiry found the police personnel guilty and action would be taken against them after a divisional inquiry.

The Maharashtra Government was forced to order an inquiry after a woman police constable attempted suicide after being raped by her colleagues. Patil said Inspector Dyaneshwar Munde, SP Yashasvi Yadav and Deputy SP Vijay Parkale were found guilty.

The matter came to light last month after a number of women constables undergoing training at the Police Training College at Kolhapur alleged that they were being sexually harassed by Munde and Parkale who often called the women to their residential quarters at night.

Of the 281 candidates undergoing training at the Kolhapur police training college, 71 girls were selected last July. Colleagues at the institution told activists from Mumbai that Parkale selected good looking girls for training. — PTI
