PM asks Ramdev to call off fast

New Delhi, May 31
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today wrote to Baba Ramdev asking him not to go ahead with his hunger strike from June 4, promising to find a "pragmatic" solution to tackle the scourge of corruption.

Ramdev, however, made it clear that he was not calling off his agitation plan till all the demands were met. In Madhya Pradesh to conduct a yoga camp, he said, "My hunger strike will go ahead. There is no question of calling off the protest plan till my demands are met and talks reach a satisfactory conclusion.”

Welcoming Ramdev's constructive suggestions to improve governance, the Prime Minister said, "This is not a personal issue. We all agree with Ramdev that corruption is a big problem and that we are committed to tackle it with all the resources at our disposal."

He also assured the yoga guru that his government was eager to work with him and members of civil society towards building a just and prosperous India. The PM said Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee would continue discussions with Ramdev on issues he has raised. — TNS
