Khurana’s remand extended by three days
Chandigarh, May 7
The SAD-BJP government in Punjab, it seems, is heading for a major image-bashing. After the arrest of its Chief Parliamentary Secretary (Finance) Raj Khurana, the Central Bureau of Investigation is closing in on two state ministers. Industries Minister Manoranjan Kalia and Social Welfare Minister Swarna Ram have been issued summons to appear before the CBI on Monday. 

Despite stay orders, land sold after fudging records
Chandigarh, May 7
The corruption case registered by the CBI against Raj Khurana, Punjab ’s Chief Parliamentary Secretary (Finance) and BJP MLA from Rajpura today became murkier with the Punjab Automobile Mechanics Association alleging that both co-accused Devinder and CBI complainant Manpreet were partners in many cases of land grabbing and illegal land sales.

Kanimozhi brain behind KTV: CBI
New Delhi, May 7
In an argument stretching close to two hours, the CBI today vehemently challenged the DMK MP Kanimozhi’s bail plea on the grounds that receiving of ‘illegal gratification’ of Rs 200 crore by Kalaignar Television (KTV) in 2G Spectrum allocation scam could not have taken place without the knowledge and consent of the accused whom he termed as “the most active brain behind the KTV”.

Hasan ‘front man’ of Khashoggi: ED chargesheet

International arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi had helped Hasan Ali Khan open his account with UBS, Zurich, to use it to launder tainted money and for the Pune stud farm owner CHF (Swiss currency) 28.5 million was “petty cash” to buy a hotel in Switzerland. Khan was acting as a “front man” for Khashoggi, a persona-non-grata in Switzerland, and Pune stud farm owner’s UBS account was used to park the arms dealer’s money, says the chargesheet filed yesterday

Gilani to brief Parliament on Osama debacle
Islamabad, May 7
Faced with mounting criticism from the public and media for his government’s response to the US raid that killed Osama bin Laden, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani would brief Parliament tomorrow to “take the nation into confidence” on the issue.
The announcement came after Gilani held a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari and army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani to review the fallout of the killing of bin Laden in an operation by US special forces in the garrison city of Abbottabad on Monday.

Orissa to resume land acquisition for Posco project
Bhubaneswar, May 7
Armed with the final forest clearance order for the mega Posco steel project near Paradip, the Orissa Government today decided to resume land acquisition activities from May 18 even as opponents of the South Korean steel major were preparing to foil the bid.
"The state government will begin land acquisition work for Posco project from the place where it halted last year in view of a stop work order from the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF).

Indian naval marine force has carried out joint exercises with US counterparts

Away from the public glare, the Indian Navy, in the past two decades, has prepared its own special forces on the pattern of the US Navy Seals-the team that killed Osama Bin Laden earlier this week in a stealth operation carried out in the dead of the night using choppers and sophisticated equipment. The Indian Naval Marine force called the ‘Marcos’ has been modelled on the US Navy Seals in the training pattern, working style and the secrecy.
