IPL controversy headed for larger SC Bench

New Delhi, April 28
Even as the fourth annual edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is underway, a two-Judge Bench of the Supreme Court has failed to resolve the legal dispute over the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) decision to take IPL and other T20 tournaments out of its purview. After hearing the case, a Bench comprising Justices JM Panchal and Gyan Sudha Misra today delivered a split verdict. As a result, the case would now be put up before Chief Justice SH Kapadia for referring it to a larger Bench.

The dispute had arisen following a petition filed byex- BCCI chief AC Muthiah challenging an amendment made to the BCCI constitution allowing BCCI office-bearers to own IPL teams. — TNS
