Thirty years ago, in a rare interview to me on his 55th birthday on November 23, 1980, I had asked him about what would happen to him after he died. He replied: "Life and death are only for a body. West Bengal’s ruling Left Front on Thursday asked the Centre to explain why it remained inactive despite having advance information about the massive arms drop in Purulia in 1995. “The latest revelations on the arms drop are further confirmation of the fact that there was a well-planned conspiracy to use violence to destabilise the Left Front at that time,” LF chairman Biman Bose told mediapersons.

SC Bench opts out of Dinakaran case

A Supreme Court Bench today opted out of hearing a petition filed by Sikkim High Court Chief Justice PD Dinakaran challenging the inquiry being conducted by the Rajya Sabha-appointed panel for his removal through an impeachment motion in Parliament.

Even as the fourth annual edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is underway, a two-Judge Bench of the Supreme Court has failed to resolve the legal dispute over the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) decision to take IPL and other T20 tournaments out of its purview.

12 killed in college bus-truck collision
Yamunanagar, April 28
A pall of gloom descended on the twin towns of Jagadhri and Yamunanagar when 12 persons, including six students, two lecturers and two staff members of an institute, were killed. The tragedy struck when a bus of the Shri Ram Institute of Management and Technology, Urjani, carrying BTech students, collided head-on with a truck. The driver of the bus, Joginder Singh, and the truck driver, Satish Kumar, died on the spot. The impact of the collision was so great that its sound was heard a long distance away.
