SC raps CBI over its U-turn in Aarushi murder case New Delhi, April 25 A Bench comprising Justices B Sudershan Reddy and SS Nijjar today wanted to know as to why the CBI had suddenly become active against the Talwars after contending in the trial court that there was no evidence against them to hold them responsible for the murder of their 14-year-old daughter at their Noida residence on May 16, 2008. The Bench felt the CBI had taken a U-turn perhaps because the trial court had taken cognizance of the chargesheet against the Talwars. At the same time, the apex court asked senior advocate Harish Salve, who argued for the Talwars, the reason for their clients’ reluctance to appear before the trial court in response to the summons. Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium, however, defended the summons, arguing that the trial judge had examined the statement of the accused and the witnesses and other relevant material. Salve, however, argued that the CBI was levelling false charges against his clients, which prompted the trial court to summon them. Making it clear that the Talwars’ plea against the summons would be examined on merit, the apex court adjourned the hearing for July 12.
