Panel to draft Lokpal Bill off to a civil start
Revised Bill of activists seeks telephone tapping power too
New Delhi, April 16
At the first meeting of the joint committee on the Lokpal Bill today, audio recorded and not videographed as demanded earlier, civil society representatives submitted an amended draft of the Bill with a fresh provision giving the Lokpal additional powers to tap telephones and internet monitoring.

Another meeting on the Jan Lokpal Bill at Nehru Memorial adjoining the historic Teen Murti Bhavan saw civil society members voicing apprehensions on the unlimited powers that the Lokpal would enjoy if an anti-corruption Bill, as envisaged by Hazare-Kejriwal group in the joint drafting committee, becomes a reality.

In the first political killing in Kashmir since the panchayat polls got underway on Wednesday, militants allegedly shot dead a woman candidate at Karpora village in the district’s Pakherpora area yesterday night.

R’sthan hospitals removed 226 uteruses for ‘money’
Jaipur, April 16
Three hospitals in Rajasthan removed the uteruses of 226 women for “unnecessary and designed for monetary benefits”, an RTI report has revealed. The administration has suspended the recognition of the hospitals in Bandikui town in Dausa and ordered a probe into the incident.
