Man kills sisters over property
Tribune News Service

Dehradun, March 30
A man allegedly killed his two sisters by slitting their throats with a chopper over a property dispute at Kuanwala in the Doiwala area of Dehradun this morning. The police has arrested his son-in-law Satyawan, who was an accomplice in the crime, and is on the lookout for Ratan Singh, the main accused.

The chopper has also been recovered from the spot. The bodies of deceased, Jagwanti Devi and Bhagwanti Devi, have been kept in a mortuary.

According to the police, Ratan Singh had come with Satyawan at his divorcee sisters’ place last night. However, following a property dispute, he, along with his son-in-law, slit their throats and fled.

People from the locality informed the police and on the basis of the information, the police tracked down Satyawan from Selaqui, where he is working in a factory. Senior Superintendent of Police Ganesh Singh Martolia in a press conference told the siblings had an old property dispute.

Their father had divided the property among the eight siblings. However, Ratan Singh had sold a part of his land to his sisters for about Rs 1 lakh in 1991. But the price of the land had risen to about Rs 50 lakh as the government had acquired the land. Ratan wanted that now his sisters should give the land back to him but they had refused since they had purchased it from him.

This is the second incident of double murder in the Doiwala area recently. In the previous case, a sacked employee of a motor vehicle showroom had killed its owner and a receptionist in broad daylight and burnt the showroom.
