WikiLeaks cables show party indulged in doublespeak over N-deal
New Delhi, March 19
The BJP was left dumbfounded today with the latest WikiLeaks cables exposing the alleged doublespeak of the main Opposition party on the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal finalised in 2008. According to WikiLeaks, the then US Charge’D Affairs in India Peter Burleigh conveyed to Washington that the BJP’s opposition to the nuclear deal was merely “public posturing” and its leaders, including LK Advani, were “assuring American officials privately that they were fine with it”.

International military intervention begins
French fighters strike, destroy Libyan tanks
Benghazi, March 19
The French air force destroyed Libyan tanks and armoured vehicles today, the first shots fired in a UN-mandated military intervention to protect civilians from attacks by Muammar Gaddafi's forces. A French defence ministry official said "a number of tanks and armoured vehicles" were destroyed in the region of Benghazi, with initial action focusing on stopping Gaddafi's forces from advancing on the rebels' eastern stronghold.

Dinakaran to face 16 charges of corruption

The inquiry panel set up by the Rajya Sabha has decided to go into 16 charges of corruption and irregularities against Sikkim High Court Chief Justice PD Dinakaran while assessing the need for pursuing the impeachment proceedings in Parliament for his removal.

2 pilots lose job for fudging flying hrs
New Delhi, March 19
Two more pilots have lost their job, this time for fudging flying hours to obtain their commercial pilot licence (CPL). Low-cost carrier Spicejet terminated the services of Captain Anuj Kumar and First Officer Amit Mundra after their names appeared in ongoing investigations into the fake flying licence issue and confirmed that the two were from the infamous Rajasthan State Flying School near Jaipur, which came into the limelight in 2010 after cases of as many as 14 students over-logging flying records to obtain CPL were detected. SC stays Talwars’ trial in Aarushi murder case
New Delhi, March 19
The Supreme Court today stayed the criminal proceedings against the Talwar couple, Rajesh and Nupur, in the case relating to the murder of their teenaged daughter, Aarushi, in Noida, in 2008. A Bench comprising Justices B Sudershan Reddy and SS Nijjar passed the order on a petition moved by the dentist couple, challenging yesterday’s Allahabad High Court verdict rejecting their plea for quashing the proceedings in a Ghaziabad court.
