Demonstrating a rare combative aspect of his personality, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today forcefully denied the Opposition charge based on WikiLeaks cables that his government won the 2008 vote of confidence by bribing MPs.

UN threat works, Gaddafi blinks
Truce ordered after UNSC authorises military action against Libyan regime
Tripoli, March 18
Libya said on Friday it would halt all military operations to protect its civilians and comply with a UN resolution, backtracking from a threat to root out rebels after Western powers warned of punitive action. The United Nations authorised a no-fly zone and attacks on forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi, who had hours earlier vowed to crush Libya’s revolt with “no mercy, no pity”.

Hardliners back Dalai Lama’s plan to quit

The hardline group of Tibetans in exile, the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), has supported the retirement plans of the Dalai Lama. The biggest group of Tibetans has become the first organisation to support the retirement plans of the Dalai Lama. The group differs in its opinion over the middle-way approach the Dalai Lama has adopted over the meaningful autonomy under Chinese sovereignty. The group is for seeking complete freedom from China.

The latest order has cleared the way for the trial of Talwars in the 2008 double murder case. “There is no provision for prohibiting a magistrate from summoning a person if prima facie it appears that there is sufficient evidence against the person,” Justice Balakrishna Narayana said in his order on a petition filed by Nupur Talwar against a Special CBI court's order in Ghaziabad.
